On 31 August 2026, the Minister of Energy Iva Petrova adopted a decision to restructure Bulgarian Energy Holding EAD by separating Mini Maritsa Iztok EAD, TPP Maritsa East 2 EAD and MMI – Rehabilitation of Mining Sites EOOD into a new state-owned enterprise, Maritza Iztok Holding. The change is of a corporate and organisational nature, whilst state ownership of the companies remains entirely intact.

The restructuring was carried out in fulfilment of the commitments undertaken by the Republic of Bulgaria under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan and forms part of the comprehensive concept for the sustainable development of the Maritza Iztok energy complex.
