Bulgaria awaits European Commission’s approval for compensation to energy-intensive industries
A decision on introducing financial compensation for energy-intensive industries is expected within the next few weeks, in response to rising electricity prices. The measure will cover up to 50% of electricity costs when prices exceed €63 per megawatt-hour, and will apply retroactively from July 1, 2025.
Compensating high electricity prices for energy-intensive industries is expected to have a positive impact on other sectors of the economy that rely on their output. The measure is part of the government’s efforts to curb inflationary pressures driven by the conflict in the Middle East and aims to support businesses in maintaining their competitiveness in the current challenging economic environment.
