For the first time in its 70-year history, Maritsa East Mines EAD will export coal to power plants outside the Maritsa East complex. The company has signed a contract with a Serbian company, which will deliver the Bulgarian coal to power plants near the city of Belgrade, Serbia. The term of the contract is until 30.04.2023, with an extension clause. Within this period, 1 750 000 tonnes of lignite will be sold.
