Kozloduy NPP and Framatome signed an agreement for the supply of fresh nuclear fuel for the sixth unit of the Bulgarian plant
At an official ceremony, Georgi Kirkov, Executive Director of Kozloduy NPP EAD, and Lionel Gaiffe, Senior Vice President, Fuel Business Unit of Framatome, signed an agreement for the supply of fresh nuclear fuel for the Bulgarian plant.
According to the Minister of Energy Rosen Hristov, the signed agreement with Framatome completes the process of diversification of supplies to the Bulgarian nuclear power plant. On 22 December 2022, a contract for the production and supply of fresh nuclear fuel assemblies for unit 5 of Kozloduy NPP was signed with Westinghouse - Sweden. Framatome produces fresh nuclear fuel assemblies that are analogous to the assemblies used in unit 6 of our nuclear power plant. Framatome's fuel assemblies will be produced in Europe.
Efforts to reduce dependence on a single supplier of nuclear materials and services for Kozloduy NPP are fully in line with the EURATOM Supply Agency's diversification policy. In order to meet these requirements, by its decision of 9 November 2022, the National Assembly instructed the Council of Ministers to ensure the conditions for licensing non-Russian nuclear fuel for Kozloduy NPP.
