The Secretary of the National Committee of Bulgaria to the World Energy Council Dr. Borislav Boev took part in the annual conference of the Bulgarian Nuclear Society, which was held in Veliko Tarnovo on 8-11 November 2023, under the title “Nuclear energy for people”.
The main topics that were widely discussed at the conference were related to the deployment of new nuclear technologies, the place and importance of small modular reactors as a promising technology, the opportunities for nuclear energy in the dynamic geopolitical environment, personnel policy and staffing of nuclear power plants, and non-electrical applications of nuclear energy.
During the conference, issues related to strategic energy planning at national and European level were discussed. Particular attention was paid to the human resources of the nuclear power industry in Bulgaria, highlighting the challenges arising from the generational change in the nuclear industry and the need to provide new personnel with the help of Bulgarian universities.
The traditional international conference of the BNS was attended by representatives of almost all the stakeholders – Kozloduy NPP, the State Enterprise “Radioactive Waste”, the Institute for Nuclear Research and Nuclear Energy at BAS, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, members of the academic community, leading experts from Romania, the Czech Republic, Canada, and others.
