First edition of I4N Bulgaria

Following the first edition of the national competition I4N (Innovation for Nuclear), organised by the Bulgarian Nuclear Society – Young Generation Network with the support of Kozloduy NPP EAD and in partnership with the Bulgarian National Committee to the World Energy Council, our country will send a team to the I4N Europe competition of the European Nuclear Society – Young Generation Network (ENS-YGN).

Three teams participated in the final of the national competition, presenting their projects within 15 minutes and answering questions from the jury. The jury awarded the first place to the team of Alexander Georgiev, Vladislav Shabanski and Kaloyan Botev, who presented a project on "Repository for final disposal of spent nuclear fuel from Kozloduy Nuclear Power Plant Units 5 and 6". Second place was awarded to the team composed of Antonia Velcheva and Nikolay Khrischev with the project "Silicon carbide as an alternative material for the cladding of heat sink elements". Third place went to the team of Annie Toskova and Tsvetan Yovov for their project "Small modular reactors: innovative solutions for sustainable energy production in industry using nuclear spent fuel".

All the finalists were awarded for their participation and the winner received the right to represent Bulgaria at the European final, which will be held on 27th of June at the National Center for Mechatronics and Clean Technologies at TU-Sofia.
