Bulgarian Council of Ministers approves ESO EAD’s GREENABLER project
ESO's project for the expansion of the electricity transmission network - GREENABLER will be financed from the Modernisation Fund.
The implementation of GREENABLER aims at reconstructing the electricity grid and increasing its transmission capacity in order to provide the necessary technical capacity to integrate the new renewable energy projects totalling 4.5 GW, as set out in the National Recovery and Resilience Plan.
The project consists of two main sets of activities. The first is the reconstruction of 720 km of existing transmission lines to upgrade them from 220 kV to 400 kV and the synchronous reconstruction of adjacent substations. The second group consists of the reconstruction of the Hemus-Stara Planina power line and its transformation from 220 kV to 400 kV voltage level, the reconstruction of 888 km of 110 kV power lines and the doubling of 92 km of 110 kV power lines to increase the transmission capacity of the network. The total cost of the project is EUR 857 million.
